PRF Club Rules
 

SAFETY AND ENJOYMENT

  • No internal combustion powered aircraft or helicopter may be flown before 08h00 Mondays to Saturdays and before 09H00 Sunday mornigs. Sundays between 13h00 and 15h30 Pattern flyers may use the airspace at PRF subject to maintaining low sound levels and staying well within the boundaries of our airfield. At the new heli port there will be no restriction with regard to Sunday flying. Any pilot that does not follow these rules may be suspended.
  • All large/noisy engines must be properly muffled. Such aircraft to use the southern end of the airfield for expansive maneuvers. These aircraft must not fly anywhere near the neighbors houses.
  • The wind direction will dictate the runway to be used. A change of runway, properly announced by a flyer, will require all those flying to relocate together.

RULES:

  • One flyer – One frequency!

  • One runway at One time!

  • Shout your intentions clearly!

  • Stay in your lane!

  • Do not drink and fly!

  • Peg your frequency,

  • 20 min. max per turn,

  • Fly designated runway as per wind direction,

  • Fly the designated circuit,

  • Pilots stand at least 10m from runway edge

No-Fly zones:

  • Corridor extending over pilots, pits, apron, clubhouse,

  • Parking area and access road

  • Neighboring houses

  • Delmas road

FLYING AND SAFETY RULES

SUMMARY

  • No drinking and flying.

  • Only members, temporary members and invited guests from other clubs may fly.

  • Only qualified pilots (PRF solo, or SAMAA. bronze up to gold qualification) may fly solo.

  • The frequency control system must be followed at all times.

  • Do not hog the peg. Maximum of 20 minutes per frequency is allowed if another pilot is waiting.

  • Fuelling and engine starting ON THE APRON ONLY.

  • Stand in pilot's area and clearly announce take-off, landing and `dead sticks"

  • Take-off and landing: ON RUNWAY AND IN DESIGNATED DIRECTION ONLY.

  • Pilots may not fly against the designated circuit.

  • Landing aircraft and "dead stick" aircraft have right of way.

  • No children or pets on the apron or the runways.

PRETORIA RADIO FLYERS FLYING AND SAFETY RULES

WHO MAY FLY

  1. A pilot may only fly at Pretoria Radio Flyers (PRF) under the following conditions:

    • A fully paid up member of PRF.

    • A visitor who has taken out daily membership at the current rate.

    • Officially invited guest.

    • A novice pilot or new member must fly under the instruction of an experienced, competent pilot until he has demonstrated his ability to fly safely on his own,  by passing the PRF solo test or the SAMAA. Bronze or higher proficiency test. The Instructor is responsible for ensuring that the novice pilot understands and follows      the PRF flying and safety rules, which are posted in the clubhouse. A list of       members considered competent to assist and train new pilots are available at the      club committee.

  2. Pilots shall not consume alcohol before and during flying.

WHEN TO FLY

Power flying is permitted any time of the week, Monday to Sunday.

FREQUENCY CONTROL

  • Only SAMAA official frequencies may be used.

  • The transmitter must display the CORRECT FREQUENCY FLAG and COLOUR STREAMER

  • All transmitters must be placed on the transmitter rack (or on the table in the workshop) immediately on arrival at the field and after flying.

  • Before a transmitter is switched on, the official frequency peg must be clipped on the transmitter, OR attached, in clear view, on the pilot's clothing, OR be attached / clipped on the pilot's field box. Currently, Peg-on. Put your peg on the board before switching on. This 3.1.5 A pilot shall not use a frequency for a period longer than 20 minutes at a time if there are other flyers who need to use the same frequency.

  • If a frequency peg is missing, immediately report it to the Duty Officer, so that the matter can be resolved before the frequency is used.

  • A key ring or other marker with the pilot's name on it must be hung on the correct peg on the board when the frequency peg is taken. Visitors must obtain a visitor's key ring.

  • New members must register their frequency with the committee ASAP.

  • Transmitters may NOT be taken onto the runway.

FUELLING AND STARTING

  • All motors must be fitted with an EFFECTIVE silencer. Open- front silencers are NOT allowed. The Duty Officer shall decide whether a silencer is effective or not.

  • Refueling and starting of engines must be carried out ON THE APRON AREA ONLY. Avoid directing the prop blast at other modelers and models. Helicopters may use the designated area adjacent to the crosswind runway, but fly at least 15 meters away from the covered area. Running-in or other extended engine runs should be carried out at the BACK of the car park.

  • Starting or re-starting of engines on the runway is not permitted. Aircraft must be removed to an area at least 10 meters from the edge of runway, or to the apron.

FLYING

  • Pilots must stand in the designated pilots' area while flying. It is important to keep transmitters at least 3 meters apart preferably 6 m to minimize the risk of third order interference, particularly on the 60 MHz band.

  • Pilots must clearly announce (loud and clear) their intention of taking-off and landing to the other pilots flying at the time.

  • Aircraft landing have right of way over aircraft taking off; BUT aircraft must give way to a "dead stick" aircraft.

  • Pilots and helpers may not stand on the runway or behind his aircraft when taking-off. Pilots must remain in the designated area. A helper may go onto the runway with "awkward" aircraft provided the intention is announced to the other pilots flying at the same time, and that no aircraft are landing.

  • Take-off by fixed wing aircraft is not allowed from any place other than the runway in use. Take-off and landing must be in the declared direction. Helicopters may take off and land from the crosswind runway. Hand launches must be AWAY from the apron or club area. The pilot and launcher must not obstruct any runway in use.

  • Pilots may not fly against the designated circuit.

  • Pilots must warn other pilots of their intention of crossing the runway. A good lookout must be kept for low flying aircraft.

  • Pilots are not to fly near full size aircraft. All pilots must land IMMEDIATELY when full size aircraft approach the airfield.

  • No flying is permitted over the apron, clubhouse and car park.
    Avoid flying over the adjacent houses.

  • High speed runs and/or "shoot-ups" are permitted only in the designated take-off direction, if the runway is clear and beyond the far edge of the runway.

GENERAL

  • Children and pets are not permitted inside the apron area or on the runways. Members are responsible for ensuring that their guests adhere to this rule.

  • Permission to fly may be withdrawn should a pilot fail to adhere to the flying and safety rules.

  • Any dispute arising from these rules shall be referred to the Committee of the Pretoria Radio Flyers, whose decision shall be accepted as final.

  • A Duty Officer has the right to suspend or cancel flying activities due to inclement weather and/or any other conditions he/she considers unsafe or dangerous.
